i've only seen it once, but i thought he was supposed to be a second-tier guy.. top of the second-tier, but second-tier nonetheless... i mean, the number of pro-wrestlers i would recognize on the street is about five.. (Hulk Hogan, Mr. T, The Rock, Paul London, and.....uh, shit i'm out... Doink maybe.. if he was in costume)... shit, Macho Man Randy Savage could've walked by me today, and I wouldn't have looked twice

They did make him out to be The Man in the movie, they should've kept him more of a 2nd tier guy, I think then, he would've even gotten more sympathy and it would've made the story sadder. IMO

I don't think I watched the same version of the movie as you guys did...He's broke as shit, has a dead-end job that he hates so much he has to mutilate himself to get out of, is on the brink of death, and is loathed by his own daughter. He fucks up everything, yet still keeps on trying to get it right, knowing that he never will enjoy the 'happiness' he once had in his life...Maybe we have a different definition of 'sad'.

My point was that he had his day in the sun, he was trying to get that back. If he had alwasy pursued that dream and never made and was then became a deadbeat and was still going after that same dream it would've made it that much more sadder.

Last night we watched The Wind That Shakes The Barley. Got to say that beyond Kes I haven't seen anything else by Loach, but this was brilliant. This movie gave me a better insight into the conception of the IRA and their motives behind the movement than many other movies. It was an unbiased approach and did lead me to having some sympathy for the IRA which I had not held before. I can now see why the IRA emerged, rather than just the media impression that they are a bunch of terrorists. They had a purpose for their actions.

Maybe six can shed more light on the IRA, as I really don't know too much about it, but this gave me an insight and I appreciated what they were telling me. The acting was also first class, Murphy really keeps impressing me with each film. A hard film to watch, but truly worthwhile. This is what the Films To See Before You Die thread is all about.

Also, over the last few days I've rewatched Anchorman, which is funny, I do enjoy it, but it's not as good as some hail it to be. Steve Carrell is brilliant in it though. Also watched 8 Women, one of Francois Ozon's movies. Very perculiar movie, a kind of whodunnit but with musical interludes. Great performances from the cast and well directed. Not as good as 5x2 or Swimming Pool, but still very enjoyable.

I think this movie only interest those who are familar with the IRA. I know very little about them, except what I've seen in Patriot Games and The Devils Own, but I found The Wind that Shakes the Barely utterly boring. But again it could be my lack of knowledge or care to know anything of the IRA.

That was exactly my point though Packs, though I lived in the UK during the 80s and 90s, I knew very little about the IRA other than that they were perceived as terrorists. However, I found this movie explained a lot of the motives surrounding the IRA's conception, and some of the scenes were very, very poignant. I was never bored at any point during the movie, I found it utterly captivating.

I too watched Anchorman in the last couple of days, although it was my first time, and agree that it is a bit over-rated. It started off alright but the 2nd half was just too silly and over the top. It started going wrong around about the gang fight onwards. Steve Carell's one liners were definatley the highlight. 6/10.

Previously I have talked about the first 2 Bourne movies and how I didn't like them much BUT I recently watched Bourne Ultimatum and surprisingly liked it a lot more than the other 2. I think if they cut out most of the middle movie (apart from introducing Pamela Landy), shortened some of the chase sequences, and joined all 3 ltogether it would've made an excellent 4 hour movie. 7.5/10.

I have also recently watched Napoleon Dynamite 8/10 (although I liked this movie I expect a lot of people hated it - like my wife did.), Death At A Funeral 6.5/10, Sexy Boys (a French American Pie type movie) 7/10, and Orange County 7/10.

He got to blow away some people in Crank 2. He even forced a guy to cut off his nipples.
