That's right.. if we are ever going to expand then we need to have a forum name that isn't an inside joke, and one that people can get to if they search for it.

I am now taking suggestions, but make sure it's something that hasn't been used before, and that highlights what this forum is for; discussion and games.

I was thinking along the lines of The Filmaverse: Movie Discussion and Games. It's close enough to the original name, and it's got the description in there as well.

from what i understand, many people refer to fantasy sports games as "rotisseries"--so the title, on top of sounding kinda unique, might draw a few people in and explain what it is that we do here

Isn't Rotisserie something you cook with (or on)?

Anyway, here is what would be our new logo should you all approve The Filmaverse:

Forum Name Change.. Thefilmaverselogo

The grey is there just to fit the forum. Speaking of which, i hate the grey look to this forum.. should change that too.

yes, i thought that imagery works well with the game we play, the critical discussions we have, and the variety of movies involved in each.. the fact that it's also used as a term to describe "Fantasy" style gaming is the kicker...

the logo you came up with looks great, btw.. i'm not 100% on "Filmaverse"--but, obviously, we should wait to let some others weigh in on it..

Obviously.. this will stay open for debate until we have one clear winner. I'm gonna use the same style for any new logo though.. I like the idea.

Filmverse is good. But I think the game version of the site should still be Fantasy Box Office, which is pretty self-explanatory.

Rotisserie (or ROTO) is a way of playing fantasy sports. Rotisserie means that you take different catagories and your placing in those catagories will be worth a number. So, if it were roto-basketball with twenty players, the person that ends the season with the most rebounds gets twenty roto-points. The person that gets the least amount of rebounds gets 1 roto-point. At the end, you count up the amount of points for a pre-defined amount of statistical catagories (say five: Points, Assists, Rebounds, Blocks, and Steals) and the winner is the one with the most roto points.

Sound familiar? That's because our ULTIMATE game is ROTISSERIE.

And the reason that it is called Rotisserie is that the very first people to devise this thing now called fantasy sports met at a rotisserie chicken restaurant in New York City so they called what they were doing a Rotisserie Baseball League

I actually really like NSpan's name idea...it's catchy and lets searchers know what it's all about even without the stuff after the colon.

the subtitle on mine could be tweaked a bit.. maybe something like:

_/\___.__,_,_The Film Rotisserie___,__.._.__/\_
Fantasy Box Office Games and Discussion of Movies & Entertainment

if you can't tell, all that ASCII shit is supposed to be a rotisserie.. just a rough idea of what a real logo could look like.. the subtitle would probably be written in the flames of a grill... you know, with the bottom letters of the main title singed just a bit.. if enough people think it's worth a consideration, maybe i'll throw something together in photoshop.. of course, anyone else is welcome to take a shot at it too

I personally hate "The Filmaverse" (sorry Barca). It just doesn't work for me. My Suggestion was calling it: The Ultimate Box Office Fantasy Challenge or The Ultimate Box Office Movie Challenge. Maybe putting "The Fantaverse Presents:" in there for the sake of the name.

NSpan, the idea of a grill in the logo sounds too regionalized. It needs something more universal.

We have members from Canada, Europe and Australia. I don't want an overly American design for the logo. We need a global spectrum, not a national.

the logo i had envisioned wasn't exactly along the lines of something you'd see at a bbq joint.. the subtitle would be engulfed in a small flame--the actual "grill" part of the idea wouldn't be represented visually..

Rotisserie (being a french word) is a pretty commonplace concept.. i mean, it's essentially how cavemen cooked their food (according to everything i've learned from watching Encino Man and the Flintstones).. and, according to my only other source of information in life, Wikipedia: aside from the US, rotisseries are commonly used in greece, turkey, mexico and throughout the middle east and arabian world... and, i imagine that even New Zealanders will pick up on the concept--you know, as soon as they discover fire

more importantly, i think W makes a good point in that we're ALREADY playing "rotisserie" style games.. just because a few of us didn't know the terminology doesn't mean it isn't a potential draw for people who already enjoy fantasy sports

Why don't we just make it something EXTREMELY easy to figure out? If the purpose is to get more people in here, that's what it should do... The people will look at "The Film Rotisserie" and think we meet at Kenny Rogers' Roasters to discuss the economic impact on Transylvania by Dracula in the 1930's.

I say keep it simple. Something like "The Fantasy Film Leagues" or whatnot. If we're not keeping it as simple as possible, we should just keep it "The Fantaverse"...

Also, we should have a Fantasy Film Leagues for Dummies in the Introduction...

shit.. when you put it that way, why the hell are we wasting our time doing what we're doing now.. that sounds way more fun

I say keep it simple. Something like "The Fantasy Film Leagues" or whatnot..
yeah, then we'll get droves of Lord of the Rings fans wondering when we're organizing our next recreation of the Battle of Helm's Deep

If we're not keeping it as simple as possible, we should just keep it "The Fantaverse".
i thought we'd been over this
Forum Name Change.. Port_218_228

let's keep in mind that we're not going to benefit by aiming for the lowest common denominator.. the lowest common denominator has ZERO interest in a fantasy box office game.. we have a niche audience, we might as well cater to it
